A bold and uplifting logo crafted to inspire confidence in the next generation of young women.
Girlhood Explained, founded by Ashley, is dedicated to creating safe and empowering spaces for Black girls to navigate puberty, self-image, and identity with confidence. Through workshops & mentorship, Ashley provides the knowledge and support that young Black girls deserve, helping them build strong foundations for their futures.
Ashley needed a logo that visually represented the heart of Girlhood Explained—one that felt warm, welcoming, and reflective of the brand’s mission. The goal was to create a visual identity that resonated with both the girls and the caregivers supporting them, positioning Girlhood Explained as a trusted resource.
Before reaching out, Girlhood Explained was in its early stages and lacked a cohesive visual identity. While Ashley had a clear mission, she needed a logo that communicated the brand’s values in a way that felt both professional and approachable.
The Girlhood Explained logo is a thoughtfully crafted wordmark that embodies cultural identity and self-expression. At its heart, the design features two bamboo hoop earrings elegantly integrated as the "OO's" in "Girlhood." This intentional design choice pays homage to a beloved fashion statement while symbolizing unity, strength, and the continuous journey of growth. The result is a visual identity that feels both meaningful and memorable, reflecting the organization's commitment to empowering young women through education, community, and shared experiences.
With a brand-new logo that authentically represents its mission, Girlhood Explained now has a strong visual foundation that is both culturally rich and emotionally resonant. The design captures the essence of the organization, making it instantly recognizable and deeply meaningful to the community it serves.
“I shared the logo with my team and some of the girls in our community, and they absolutely loved it! It truly feels like a reflection of who we are and what Girlhood Explained stands for. Seeing their excitement confirmed that this design represents us in the best way possible!”
